New shoes, new skirt, new shirt, new hair-do, new back-pack, new school, new teacher, new learning experience, BRING IT ON!
There's a song, part of which reads, "Precious memories how they linger, how they ever flood my soul.
In the stillness of the midnight, precious, sacred scenes unfold."

While it's always enjoyable to conjure up thoughts of our childhood during periods of relaxation, I found there's another way to recall those events of long ago, and that is to visit a class of energetic, active young people during their first day of class.
I did just that and for an instant thought I was going to be the center of attention as most all the kids started toward me. Imagine
my disappointment when I found out it was because I was sitting next to the electric pencil sharpener. When I was in school you had to crank your own pencil sharpner! I saw kids with very short pencils!I couldn't help noticing the bright colors in their workbooks.
We also had colors in ours, two to be exact - black and white!
It was interesting to look around their classroom and read some of the posters on the wall.
One showing the 43 Presidents that have led this great country of ours, with a very pointed question "Can you name all 43?"
There is one on the door listing rules of conduct, such as:
"I go for help when the problem gets to big for me." I think this is the rule that keeps the teachers so busy!
"I follow the rules, even when I don't agree with them."
The very last one states "When I say, I'll do it, I do it." Life would be so refreshing if we all lived by that rule!
Over the blackboard is a quote from Aesop "No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted."
And one last poster is well worth repeating here. "Today is your chance to make a difference, What are you waiting for?"
During the class prayer, - yes we still have prayer in our classrooms - the teacher was thanking the Lord for the wonderful summer we all enjoyed as well as a wonderful first day of school. You had to notice the quietness and reverence in the classroom, as the only thing one could hear was the teacher speaking and 'Squeaker' (the class mascot) foraging around in his cage.
It was nice to enjoy a little time with the students on this, their first day of school.
